My son was born in 1996 and just celebrated his 30th birthday. He went to college, lived in a dorm with help of ann aide, obtained a degree and is working up the courage to drive a modified vehicle by taking lessons. He wears a bipap at night, sits upright at his computer and feeds himself. We firmly believe only God knows the number of our days and each of us has a purpose in this life. Sending love to the reader. God bless you.

What a beautiful message to share — and what an incredible young man your son is! His achievements are truly inspiring, and your family's spirit shines through every word.

His story is a powerful real-world example of how far care and treatment have come. Research shows that people with DMD born after 1990 have a median survival of just over 28 years — and your son has already surpassed that milestone beautifully. The tools helping him thrive — like his BiPAP — are exactly the kind of respiratory support that researchers credit for improving outcomes. Staying upright, maintaining independence, and continuing to engage with life all matter enormously.

As a myMDteam member, his story is the kind that gives other families real, tangible hope. Thank you for sharing it. God bless your family too. 💙
