I have DM2 and was put on Mexiletine a few weeks ago by my new Doctor. For me, it's really working on the muscle stiffness and Myotonia that is causing the pain. I'm also 62 and have been in a lot of pain for years. The Bee medication has reduced the pain by about 50%. Maybe ask your doctor if it might help you. What help is available for DM2 fatigue and pain at age 62?

Managing fatigue and pain with muscular dystrophy involves several approaches that can work together to improve your quality of life.

For Pain Management:

* Physical therapy with stretches and exercises can help maintain flexibility and prevent contractures (muscle tightening)
* Steroid medications may help slow disease progression and manage symptoms
* At-home stretching routines recommended by your therapist
* Surgery in some cases to relieve muscle tension
* Counseling and support groups to address the emotional toll of chronic pain

For Fatigue:

* Regular light exercise like swimming or cycling can help, though it's important to avoid overexertion
* Physical therapy to help you stay mobile and maintain muscle strength
* Pacing activities throughout the day to conserve energy

Additional Support:

Occupational therapy can be particularly helpful in finding easier ways to accomplish daily tasks at home or work when fatigue and pain make things difficult.

It's essential to work with your healthcare team to create a personalized care plan. They can help you find the right balance of treatments that work for your specific needs and lifestyle. Keep track of your symptoms between visits and share any changes with your provider.
